Simple Chinese Sentences (Part 1)

All books for learning Mandarin Chinese

Well, as the book’s name suggests, this book is about the Chinese abbreviations. In case you are new to Chinese language and culture, I wish to reemphasize that the Chinese people often like to shorten words and phrases. For example, the European Economic Community is often referred as 欧共体 (ōu gòng tǐ), however, its full form is 欧洲经济共同体 (ōuzhōu jīngjì gòngtóngtǐ).

In fact, there are so many abbreviations in Mandarin Chinese language. If you are learning Chinese, understanding these abbreviations is very crucial for a deeper knowledge of the language.

Therefore, in this book, I have compiled about 400 Chinese abbreviations. For each of the abbreviations, you’ll find English, pinyin, and simplified characters. Here is another example:

Simple Chinese Sentences (Part 3)
  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS/SARS-CoV)
  • fēidiǎn
  • 非典
  • fēidiǎn xíng fèiyán
  • 非典型肺炎

Let me know how you think about this book.

Can’t wait to hear your feedback.
