What’s the most difficult challenge in learning Mandarin Chinese? In my opinion, the most difficult part of mastering Mandarin is to learn thousands of Chinese characters.

Although it’s difficult to estimate how many Chinese characters do exist (the natives use about 5000 characters in daily life), the number of words in the Chinese language is virtually infinite (metaphorically speaking).
