Well, as the book’s name suggests, this book is about the Chinese abbreviations. In case you are new to Chinese language and culture, I wish to reemphasize that the Chinese people often like to shorten words and phrases. For example, the European Economic Community is often referred as 欧共体 (ōu gòng tǐ), however, its full form is 欧洲经济共同体 (ōuzhōu jīngjì gòngtóngtǐ).
